An interview with the late Yuri Kochiyama, by Verso's Andy Hsiao

Victoria Chow 4 June 2014

About a decade ago, upon the 2004 publication of Yuri Kochiyama's memoir Passing It On, Verso Senior Editor Andy Hsiao conducted a radio interview with the passionate Japanese-American activist, who passed away on June 1, 2014. In the interview, which includes Kochiyama's granddaughter Akemi, Yuri touches upon meeting Malcolm X, the campaign for Japanese-American redress, and her continuing campaigns for political prisoners, among many other issues. The interview was produced for WBAI's Asia Pacific Forum, 99.5 FM, and is found below.

From the interview:

When we think of our children and our children's children, we certainly almost really try to make this a more harmonious world, and the only way that could be is, there's got to be justice, there's got to be equality, there's got to be self-determination and human rights.
