The New School
On the occasion of the publication of the first complete English language edition of Victor Serge’s Memoirs of a Revolutionary by NYRB Classics, McKenzie Wark, author of The Beach Beneath the Street, will join Michael Taussig and Ross Poole to talk about the ongoing relevance of this most remarkable writer. Serge was present at almost all of the great revolutionary events, from Spain to Germany to Russia, in the early 20th century. He narrowly escaped from Stalin’s purges, and became the first person to try using the concept of totalitarianism to describe his experience. He remained, however, a stalwart writer on the left, and produced a dazzling series of books that are still not fully appreciated to this day.
The even will be taking place on Wednesday, April 25th at 6 PM at the New School. Please visit the Facebook event page for details and be sure to also check out Susan Weismann's remarkable biography Victor Serge: The Course is Set on Hope.
