Walter Rodney: A Lightning Rod of Black Working Class Power

“If Walter Rodney’s assassins were under the impression that they could arrest the flow of his ideas by destroying his body, they could not have been more wrong.”— Angela Davis

In his short life, the Guyanese intellectual Walter Rodney emerged as one of the leading thinkers and activists of the anti-colonial revolution. He became a major revolutionary figure in a dizzying range of locales that traversed the breadth of the Black diaspora. Walter Rodney not only witnessed Pan-African and socialist internationalism, he can be counted among its prime authors.

On June 13 1980, Walter Rodney was assassinated by the Guyanese government, led by the Forbes Burnham regime. It is up to those of us who refuse to concede that global capitalism represents the planet’s best future to expand upon his legacy.

We are proud to publish a new edition of his seminal work, How Europe Underdeveloped Africa.

Typographical errors of the previous edition have been corrected, and the entire text has been rigorously fact-checked to create an edition that supersedes the original, doing justice to the legacy and fulfilling the intentions of a groundbreaking pan-Africanist and Marxist historian.

30% off all works by Walter Rodney through Monday, June 15th.
