A film screening of Berlin. Symphony of a Great City as part of the Walter Benjamin series.
This kaleidoscopic portrait of Benjamin’s native city set to Edmund Meisel’s dynamic score captures life in the modern metropolis in the mid-1920s over one day. With its virtuoso montage, changing camera angles, and superimpositions, it exemplifies the possibilities that Benjamin saw in the new technological medium of film – the ability to reflect, expand and deepen the way the new mass audience experiences reality.

We will present the restored version with the score by Edmund Meisel.

Germany 1927, bw, 65 mins. No dialogue. Director: Walther Ruttmann.

This screening is part of the series Walter Benjamin.

Tickets are £3 and are available here.
