Last week, the “Elvis Presley” of philosophy Slavoj Žižek, author ofThe Year of Dreaming Dangerously, decided to stop by at the CBC’s The Current and got host Anna Maria Tremonti to ruminate on Occupy Wall Street, the Arab Spring, and the politics of Batman.
I was disappointed but not surprised by this interview. I love his books but in person he truly sounds divorced from reality. Canada a wonderful country? America without all the bad things American? Has he never heard of Harper? And Cuba, warts and all, is still a socialist country with a lot of interesting ideas. Venezuela, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, and many other countries are home to a huge diversity of alternative policies and ideas so claiming lefties don't have any idea what to do about the global crisis of capitalism is sheer nonesense. One might disagree with Hugo Chavez but short of ideas he is not!
I have to do a
report for our school magazine on this topic, and your blog has been
beneficial. Can you please add more reference to this point, thanks.
