Recently launched by the self-styled "sporting outfitters of intellectual distinction" aka Philosophy Football, comes their Adorno football t- shirt. Here was a philosopher who knew all about the necessity to endure defeat in order to truly enjoy the moment of victory.
Philosophy Football have five of the t-shirts to be won in the December competition and one lucky winner will also receive a set of Verso titles by iconic names from, and inspired by, the Frankfurt School.
Be in with a chance of also winning:
Towards a New Manifesto by Adorno and Horkheimer
A Study on Authority by Marcuse
Atheism in Christianity by Bloch
Late Marxism by Jameson
and Walter Benjamin's Archive
To enter simply answer this simple question: In 1934 Adorno left Germany, staying for a while in Oxford. Watching Oxford United may have inspired his awareness of the necessity to suffer; in which year did Oxford United end their fans' years of hurt by winning the Football League Cup, the club's first major trophy?
Email your answer with full name, address and preferred T-shirt size to firstname.lastname@example.org . The closing date for entries is 31 December 2012.
Best of luck!
