Verso Books—the largest independent, radical publishing house in the English-speaking world—is looking for a part-time academic marketing and publicity manager, able to work two to three days a week.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and carrying out Verso’s US academic marketing strategy, in close coordination with our marketing and publicity department. It is hoped that this will entail a creative approach to getting our books course-listed—building on our strong scholarly reputation as well as Verso’s industry leading social media, online and direct sales operation. Building good relationships with professors and adjuncts, colleges, journals, conferences, political organizations, venues, and all kinds of media will be central to the job. Creative use of social media and direct marketing tools will also be essential, including contributing to Verso's website. In addition, he or she will be responsible for publicizing between ten and twenty scholarly titles each year—securing reviews and online coverage—across the social sciences and humanities.
At least two years experience of publishing and/or academic marketing is preferred, as well as a demonstrable familiarity with our list and publishing history. The successful applicant will become a key part of a dynamic team, with the aim of growing Verso's academic marketing program over time. We’re offering a competitive salary (subject to experience), and full benefits (health and dental insurance, and twenty days vacation pro rata, plus federal holidays). Please send a full cover letter and resumé to firstname.lastname@example.org, with the subject line ‘Academic Marketing Application’, by Nov 21st, 2014.
