Verso was founded as New Left Books in 1968 to raise the intellectual standard of the left. 

Since then, the house has published groundbreaking interventions—opening new fields of inquiry, challenging the scholarly status quo, and sparking fruitful debates in academia and among the public at large.

Today, the use of artificial intelligence endangers the vital relationship between author, publisher, and reader. On this subject, Verso’s position is clear: The defence of independent publishing, of the creativity and original scholarship exemplified by our books, and the maintenance and nurture of editorial skills are inseparable from the house’s political mission.

When you read our books, visit our blog, open our newsletters, and engage with us on social media, you can be certain that what you are reading has been written by a person. Verso is firmly opposed to the use of generative AI at any stage in the creation of our books.
