Two Verso books in final for French translation prize

Natasha Lewis 8 March 2013

Two Verso books are in the running for a prize for English to French translations. In Defense of the Terror by Sophie Wahnich, translated by David Fernbach, and The Metamorphoses of Kinship by Maurice Godelier, translated by Nora Scott were announced as finalists in the non-fiction category for the annual French-American Foundation and the Florence Gould Foundation French to English Translation Prize. The prize, which was first awarded in 1986, was created to honor the best translator of non-fiction each year.

This is the second time David Fernbach has been in the final five for this prize: his translation of The Invention of Paris: The History of Footsteps (Verso, 2010) was shortlisted in 2011. The winning translator will receive a $10,000 cash prize funded by the Florence Gould Foundation at an awards ceremony in June in New York.
