US OFFICE

Senior Publicist/Publicist—full time

Verso Books—the world’s largest independent, radical publishing house—is looking for a Senior Publicist or Publicist to join the team in Verso’s Brooklyn office. Verso has a roster of authors that includes Mike Davis, Judith Butler, Fredric Jameson, Nancy Fraser, Seymour Hersh, David Harvey, China Miéville, and Ann Pettifor, among others.

The successful candidate will be responsible for securing events, interviews, reviews, features, op-eds, and online coverage for up to thirty new books a year, working across a wide range of subject areas (including US politics, US and world history, Latin American politics, economics, ecology, feminism, political theory, cultural theory).

Building good relationships with major, national media—broadcast, print and online—will be central to the job, in addition to working closely with independent media and political organizations. Creative use of social media is important, as well as an interest in direct marketing and commissioning or writing contributions to Verso's blog.
A willingness to try new and innovative approaches to publicity and marketing will be strongly encouraged. You will also need to be able to tailor and present the salient aspects of each new title to journalists and reviews editors, potential authors, and events coordinators, and to efficiently manage tours and publicity campaigns for a number of titles at any one time. At least two years of experience at some kind of media organization is preferred—not necessarily book publishing—as well as a demonstrable familiarity with our list and publishing history.

We are an equal opportunity employer and underrepresented populations are especially encouraged to apply.

Verso Books is offering a competitive salary (subject to experience), and full benefits (health and dental insurance, 401k, and twenty five days vacation plus federal holidays). Please send a thoughtful cover letter and resumé to verso@versobooks.com, with the subject line "Senior Publicist/Publicist Application" by August 16, 2019.
